An easily seen natural sandstone marker was erected in honor of Gerard Berryman. He was a Confederate soldier during the Civil War, and while his family built the monument to him, they also recognized all soldiers, both Union and Confederate, buried in this cemetery. Highland is also the resting place of acrobatic pilot Harold Krier. His grave is north of the small rock church and west off the cemetery's main driveway.
