The hard-to-read Walronds Stockade sign is 1 mile south of town on the east side of U.S. 281. Z.T. Walrond was just 23 years old when he and two friends came to Kansas from Kentucky in 1870. They constructed the stockade as protection from Indians and lived there until 1873.
