ARBORETUM

Bartlett Arboretum

Belle Plaine, KS | Sumner County

Dr. Walter Bartlett started the arboretum in 1910, and it was open to the public until 1942; then again from 1961 until the mid-1990s. The 20 acres is now home to massive cypress, oaks, and champion Japanese maples, and current steward Robin Macy and the Soil Sisters (volunteers) are restoring the bridges, pathways, and grounds. A beautiful and spiritual oasis, the grounds are open during arboretum events, by reservation, or by chance. Donation suggested. Call ahead. (NRHP)
