From Military, 2 miles west on 12th/U.S. 166 (Baxter Springs Cemetery). Designated as an official Soldiers' Lot by the National Cemetery Administration, it is the final resting place for those killed in the 1863 Battle of Baxter Springs and other area engagements. The tall monument of a soldier with his hand over his rifle muzzle is the cemetery's centerpiece. The names of those who died are inscribed on it, and the men are buried in a common grave. A fence surrounding the plot is formed with cannon barrels protruding from the ground. Simple white gravestones for veterans from all wars flank the monument.
