From U.S. 56, 2 blocks north on 6th, 3 blocks east on Quayle, then 1 block north on Eisenhower. Platted in 1854, Palmyra was an important stop on the Santa Fe Trail. In this little town travelers filled their water barrels, purchased supplies, washed their laundry, sent and received letters, and repaired their wagons and harness. Within a few years, the growth of the adjacent Baldwin City ended Palmyra's existence. A metal plaque and a DAR marker tell the story. See the original Palmyra well at 400 Washington.
