Larson and Rockne Memorials

A memorial at the I-35 rest area honors Al Larson who gave his life saving fellow travelers in a flash flood near here on August 30, 2003.

A monument to Knute Rockne, legendary Notre Dame football coach who died in a 1931 plane crash near this point, stands outside the service area. Inside, large photographic panels depict various aspects of Rockne's life.
