Now named Lansing Correctional Facility, it is the state's first maximum-security prison and houses more than 2,000 inmates. Those once incarcerated here include Emmett Dalton, captured during the 1892 Dalton Gang raid; Topeka's Alvin 'Creepy' Karpis, FBI Public Enemy Number 1 in 1936; and Richard Hickock and Perry Smith, who committed the Clutter murders in 1959.

The original stone-walled building is now open for tours guided by retired correctional officers and knowledgeable historians. It's an experience like no other.
