Historic Hanway House

Lane, KS | Franklin County

Judge James Hanway was an integral part of Kansas Territory and early state government. He and his two sons built their home, the native limestone Hanway House (NRHP), in circa 1858. A log cabin that once stood on this property housed John Brown on visits to the area and sheltered slaves on the Underground Railroad. Drive by only. The plaque is on the base of the flagpole.
