Historic Architecture

Dodge City, KS | Ford County

Among the more interesting buildings included in the Downtown Historic District (see previous entry) are the following. The 1913 Ford County courthouse (Central and Gunsmoke) is a grand stone structure in Modern Eclecticism style. The 1928 Lora Locke Hotel (100 Gunsmoke) now serves as the county government offices, but the ornate lobby is still intact. Although not in the Downtown Historic District but nonetheless on the national register is the 1916 Sacred Heart Cathedral (903 Central), a beautiful example of Spanish Colonial Revival architecture.
