Hays Historic District

Hays, KS | Ellis County

The Justus Bissing Jr. Historic District (NRHP) offers two examples of Bissing's architectural skills. The 1920 two-story, red-brick house, 502 W. 12th St., combines Craftsman and Prairie School styles; and the 1932 Tower Service Station, 504 W. 12th St., was built in a Queen Anne variation style. A Volga German immigrant, Bissing was a well-known craftsman, designer, and inventor in Hays.
