Garfield Town Name

Garfield, KS | Pawnee County

The bell in the tiny Garfield Memorial Wayside Chapel (a replica of the original church) was given to the town in 1875 by Ohio congressman James A. Garfield, who became the 20th president of the United States in 1881. The bell was a thank you to former citizens from his Ohio district who had emigrated to Kansas and renamed their town in his honor.
