South of the wooden water tower. These retention ponds, developed in 1885, held the water supply for the steam engines on the Frisco railroad. From the ponds the water was piped into the wooden water tank. In 2007 the ponds were restored and provide excellent fishing for guests of the Beaumont Hotel. Signage west of the water tower tells more of the history. (NRHP)
