IRRIGATION

Canal Avenue

Cimarron, KS | Gray County

In the 1880s Asa Soule's mammoth Eureka Canal ran through here to irrigate land in Gray and Ford Counties. In the 1930s when the ditch was filled in, the area was named Canal Avenue. You can still see earthen mounds between Ingalls and Cimarron on either side of U.S. 50 indicating where the canal once ran.
