8 WONDERS OF KANSAS CUSTOMS

C.W. Parker Carousel Museum

Leavenworth, KS | Leavenworth County

C.W. Parker was once the world's largest producer of amusement rides and carousels, and his largest factory was in Leavenworth. The museum showcases three carousels: the oldest operating Flying Horse carousel (1850-1865) in the world; a 1950 Paul Parker (C.W.'s son) aluminum carousel; and the feature, a C.W. Parker 1913 carousel (8 Wonders of Kansas Customs). It is not only a beauty to behold with its 24 horses, three ponies, a rabbit, chariot, and a lover's cup, but you can ride on it! A 1920 band organ plays carousel music as you go round and round. No museum admission charge, but charge for tour or carousel ride.
