Erie is famous for its annual Old Soldiers and Sailors Reunion, a historic event that has taken place during the third week of July every year since 1873. It includes Erie's famous (free!) Bean Feed, where members of the American Legion Post cook more than 1,400 pounds of beans in 50 iron kettles that they fire up on the courthouse lawn. You're invited to step up with a bowl and spoon to see why Erie is called the Bean Feed Capital of Kansas!
