Designed by Kiene & Bradley Architects of Topeka and built by Freeto Construction Company of Pittsburg, this 1961 courthouse is a two-story, cream-colored brick structure with red/brown stackstone and concrete. Landscaping provides color to this flat roofed Modern structure.  The clocktower from the original 1886 courthouse stands on the courthouse grounds.
