Town of Girard

In 1868 Dr. Charles Strong killed a deer while hunting in this area. At the spot the deer fell, Strong drove a stake into the ground and announced that he would build a town on this site. A marker beside a deer statue on the town square at Prairie and Summit describes this unusual town beginning.
