Town Founder

Minneapolis, KS | Ottawa County

As you cross the Solomon River on Mill (becomes K-106), notice the dam and waterfall to the west. This is where town founder Israel Markley first built a dam and mill in 1864. The city park 1/8 mile south is built on land donated by the Markley estate in 1911 and aptly named Markley Grove. A large memorial with water fountains honors the Markleys.
