Tammy Faye Bakker Messner

Waldron, KS | Harper County

Many are surprised to learn that once-famous evangelist and TV talk show host Tammy Faye Bakker is buried in this secluded prairie cemetery. She and her former husband, evangelist Jim Bakker, rose to fame through their Christian-based PTL (Praise The Lord) network. After a widely publicized scandal, they divorced and she later married Roe Messner, a Waldron native and church builder. Tammy Faye, known for her teary testimonials and heavy eye and face make-up, died of cancer in 2007. Her fans often leave tubes of lipstick and mascara at her gravesite. To find her grave walk north two-thirds of the way into the cemetery and look for the large Todd stone on the west side. From there, three rows to the west are three flat gray granite markers. One is Tammy Faye's.
