HISTORIC CHURCH

St. Bridget Catholic Church

Axtell, KS | Marshall County

This handsome red-brick church stands proudly (although with no steeple) on the rolling hills. When construction was completed in 1909, no money remained to add a steeple. Inside you'll find a magnificent vaulted ceiling and beautiful stained-glass windows, eight of which were moved here from an earlier church. The archdiocese of Kansas City closed St. Bridget in 1967, but the St. Bridget Historical Society saved the church from demolition. A bronze plaque on a glacial stone tells the church's story.
