The 1893 red-brick and limestone church shares a chapel and stained-glass window for two denominations—Protestant is upstairs; Catholic is on the lower level—and in 1921 the chapel was listed in Ripley's Believe It or Not because it conducted two services simultaneously. The ornate stained-glass windows feature both religious and patriotic themes, and W.B.N.H.D.V.S. engraved in one window stands for Western Branch National Home of Disabled Volunteer Soldiers. The gargoyles on the outside Gothic tower were designed to frighten away evil spirits. The church no longer provides services.
Regarding directions: The Chapel does not have an address so the address given is to the VA Medical Center. These are directions to the Chapel. From U.S. 73 and K-5, go less than 1/4 mile north on U.S. 73. Turn east on Home Pl and go through the stone gates. Continue for almost 1/4 mile and take a sharp right on Franklin for 1/4 mile. Find the Chapel on the south side of the street.
