HISTORIC CHURCH

St. Benedict's Abbey

Atchison, KS | Atchison County

Benedictine monks established this abbey in the late 1850s, and about 32 monks reside here today. Barry Byrne, a student of Frank Lloyd Wright, completed the present abbey church in 1957. A brochure in the lobby explains this structure, the organ, choir stalls, the fresco, and the crypt. Monks gather here four times a day for common prayer.
