South Park, the oldest park in Lawrence, has been part of the city since its original 1854 town site. Its bandstand—now known as the South Park gazebo—was built in 1906 and still hosts the city band’s summer concerts. In 1910, President Theodore Roosevelt visited Lawrence to help dedicate the granite Roosevelt Fountain. Today, the park remains a beloved gathering place for weddings, events, and everyday relaxation.
