River Road Scenic Back Road (Section 1)

For a truly dare-to-do-dirt adventure through the Arkansas River Lowlands take this sandy drive that parallels the river. Your 16-mile, back-road journey to Syracuse is flanked with cottonwoods and pasture, a beautiful combination of southwest Kansas scenery. It's also a great birding trail where you might spot western kingbirds, western meadowlarks, pheasants, and magpies. (Section 2; Section 3)
