The museum building was moved stone by stone to this site from Nekoma. Spending time here will help you further appreciate Kansas native limestone, a beautiful natural resource often known as post rock. The museum houses photographs of limestone being quarried and of area buildings constructed of this native material. An exhibit also demonstrates how to extract limestone from the ground using feathers and wedges. An average post rock fence post is nine inches wide on each of its four sides, five to six feet long, and weighs 250 to 450 pounds. Post rock fence posts were one of the 8 Wonders of Kansas Customs.
