The drive around the park is on a former trotting horse race track. The Kansas State Fair was held here in 1885 as were Chautauquas from 1907 to 1920. The octagonal floral exhibition hall dates prior to the state fair. WPA-era projects include the athletic stadium, picnic tables, grills, benches, and plantings. The swimming pool, playground equipment, and disc golf are from modern times. (NRHP)
