An abandoned general store on the northwest corner is nearly all that remains of Orion, named for a beloved 1890s teacher Justin Orion McBurney. A tornado, failure of the railroad to come through, and a nearby WWII aerial gunnery range combined to seal the fate of this small town. Gaeland Cemetery lies just east of Orion, its name spelled out in hand-cut tin letters on the entrance gate.
