On the Rice–Reno county line lies a mile-and-a-half stretch of the original route of K-96, paved in the 1930s. Bricks are still visible, though in some sections they’re covered by later layers of concrete or asphalt. The first thirty yards are sandy.

From Broadway and Garfield in Sterling, drive three miles south on Old K-14 to 95th Avenue. Turn east onto the county-line road, then follow the curve south onto Hodge.
