The barracks, built by prisoners, opened in 1921. After the facility closed in 2002, most of 'the Castle' (as it was known) was dismantled except for the outside walls, guard towers. You can now walk the courtyard and read the interpretive signage or drive through the barracks.
The 12th Brick Grille is located inside the walls of the old Disciplinary Barracks. The cafe is so named because inmates produced the bricks used to build the barracks and every 12th brick was stamped with USMP (United States Military Prison). Open Monday-Friday 10:30 am-1:30 pm.
