HISTORIC CHURCH

Old Stone Church

Maple Hill, KS | Wabaunsee County

For eastbound travelers on the interstate, the hillside church and cemetery form a picturesque setting. In 1991 the church was struck by a tornado and sustained heavy damage. Locals raised funds and rebuilt it as it originally appeared in 1882. Regular services were held here until 1905. It is one of the only churches in the state surrounded on three sides by a cemetery. From the driveway just north of the church, look east to find the gravestone of Sarah Oliver. The printing on the stone is inverted, likely due to a printing plate error.
