ARCHITECTURE

Ogallala Quartzite

Hill City, KS | Graham County

Unique to this area, the green-gray rock is a tightly cemented sandstone from the Ogallala Formation. It can be seen in several buildings including Longfellow Middle School, 203 N. 2nd, constructed in 1920 as Memorial High School. The home at 621 N. Pomeroy also was built with the quartzite along with other stones.
