Much history is tied to many of the gravestones here. In 1875 Sheriff Alexander Ramsey died in a shootout with a horse thief. His grave marker states he was killed by an outlaw in pursuit of his duty. A poignant statue of a little boy and his dog mark the resting place of 5-year-old Jack Downing who died from diphtheria in 1878. The dog was Jack's constant companion as the two roamed about town.
