You gotta love the Lustron! Great Bend is the Lustron Home Capital of Kansas. Eighteen Lustrons, prefabricated, all-steel homes popularized after WWII, that are still standing in Great Bend, were built by local company Brack Implements. You can see these compact, efficient houses on Broadway at W. 3410, E. 1444, and E. 1416; on Coolidge at 1307, 1310, and 1406; and on Harding at 1317, 1410, 1411, and 1417. The Abel home (NRHP), 2601 Paseo, and the Nagel house (NRHP), 1411 Wilson, are both deluxe two-bedroom models. Visit the Barton County Historical Museum to view a fully furnished Lustron.
