Raised in Great Bend, Micheaux became the first black person to produce a full-length motion picture (1919) with an all-black cast. The grave of this famous filmmaker and author can be seen at Great Bend Cemetery. From the Broadway entrance, go north (cemetery office is on your right) into the cemetery to the dead end, west to the second blacktop driveway, then south at the Y. Micheaux's gravestone is the fourth one along the road to the east. Learn more about Micheaux at the Barton County Historical Museum.
