At a roadside pull over a historical marker relates the tragic encounter in 1874 between 25 Cheyennes, led by Chief Medicine Water, and a group of surveyors. The bodies of the six men from the surveying party were found and temporarily buried in a common grave near a solitary cottonwood tree.
