The park was named for Catherine America Hoffman, who donated the land for the park in 1917. Mrs. Hoffman, a leader in the Woman Suffrage campaign of 1912, was a strong supporter of Carrie Nation and the Woman's Christian Temperance Union. It was she who invited Carrie to Enterprise and hosted her in her home before Carrie and her followers smashed Schillings Saloon.
