Lawrence Pioneer Cemetery

Lawrence, KS | Douglas County

A tall white obelisk marks the cemetery's first gravestone, that of Ohio immigrant Thomas Barber who was killed by proslavery supporters in 1855. Civil War soldiers, victims of Quantrill's 1863 raid, and former KU leaders are buried in this small and historic cemetery.
