The Iron Horse Trail is a rare “rail-with-trail,” meaning the hiking and biking path runs directly alongside active railroad tracks. This 8-foot-wide trail parallels the Abilene & Smoky Valley Railroad, a heritage railway that still carries passengers between Abilene and Enterprise. Stretching 5 miles in a straight, linear route, the trail offers an opportunity to experience both prairie scenery and river landscapes.
Trailheads are in Abilene and just north of First Street and Factory Road, near the Hoffman Grist Mill in Enterprise.
