In 2008 Hot Wheels chose Speed as one of its stops and event hosts for the Hot Wheels 40th Anniversary Cross-Country Road Trip. Speed's water tower still sports a Hot Wheels ribbon, and the city limits sign confirms that Speed is recognized by Hot Wheels as the Birthplace of America's "Need for Speed."
