HISTORY

Greensburg Tornado

Greensburg, KS | Kiowa County

Greensburg was changed from a quiet little prairie town to one forced to make tough decisions. An EF5 tornado destroyed 95 percent of the town in May 2007, but in its wake a disheartened but determined citizenry knew they would rebuild. But how? Back to status quo or go in a "green" direction? The town's name implied which way to go but would they have the courage to do it? Despite growing pains, this county seat has remade itself like no other prairie town has had the chance to do.
