Great Eastern Ditch

The canal that you see running west to east through town is part of the Great Eastern Ditch, conceived and chartered by Buffalo Jones in 1881. It provided water, diverted from the Arkansas River, to irrigate crops during the dry years. It is still used for that purpose.
