As a result of a 1914 oil boom, many early 20th-century commercial structures are now part of a 70-property Arkansas City Commercial Center Historic District (NRHP). Whether you can identify the architectural style or not, the ornamentation and grandeur of many of these buildings will impress you. The district is downtown on Summit and on either side of Summit on 5th. The 1924 Burford Theatre has been restored and is now open as a multipurpose venue.
