One of the curiosities about Clifton and Vining is that both towns (about a block apart) are in two counties. Parallel both towns' main street runs on the county line making the north sides of Clifton and Vining in Washington County and the south sides in Clay County. A sign at Berner Park explains that these two small towns ended up so close to each other because of a disagreement between two railroad companies.
