The red roof on this 1873 limestone structure is no ordinary one, in fact every part of this majestic courthouse is quite extraordinary. John Haskell, the main architect for the state capitol, chose the Second Empire style for this structure. Standing in grand splendor at the south end of Broadway, this oldest continuously operating courthouse in the state features a walnut staircase that leads to a bird's-eye view of the city from the third-story oval window.
