Buffalo Hunt

Jewell, KS | Jewell County

In 1869, W.M. "Billy" Street climbed a hill west of Jewell and for as far as he could see in all directions was a mass of moving buffalo. In honor of this magnificent animal, the town of Jewell has placed 15 statues throughout the community. Go into sleuth mode on this self-led tour of Jewell to look for them. Stop at the Lake Emerson shelter house (305 W. Pearl Street) in Jewell for a guided map of where each buffalo can be found.
