The limestone 1937 Barnard Library was a WPA project built in 1937. Built in 1937 as a WPA project, the Barnard Library is constructed of native limestone. Named for Howard Barnard, an innovator educator in his day who opened the experimental school, Entre Nous College near McCracken. He went on to become a much-beloved librarian at the LaCrosse High School and later the public library. See a collection of his artifacts and books at the library
