Anthony 9-11 Memorial

Anthony, KS | Harper County

In response to the 9-11 tragedy, the community of Anthony raised and sent money to the family of a fallen firefighter. A relationship developed between town and family, and the bond has impacted Anthony. A memorial built with steel from the World Trade Center, limestone from the Pentagon, and soil from the field in Pennsylvania stands in this park. Two beams of light glow at night in memory of the Twin Towers. In 2006 Governor Kathleen Sebelius signed a bill designating this monument the official 9-11 Memorial of Kansas. It is a fitting and touching tribute to the heroes of 9-11 and to the human spirit that binds us all.
