The view from the cemetery of the Missouri River, bluffs, valley, and the ghost town of Doniphan is magnificent! The largest and most elaborate monuments in the cemetery are those of brothers Jacob and Adam Brenner, whose vineyards were a major part of the area economy from the 1860s to 1912. Another noteworthy person, Samuel T. Carpenter, is also buried here. He was a member of the honor guard that escorted President Lincoln's body from Washington, D.C., to Springfield, Illinois. Carpenter's gravestone (a black stone standing southwest of Adam Brenner's marker) provides a short commentary on this event.
