The Campbell Chapel A.M.E. Church (NRHP; 715 Atchison) was the first black church in Atchison. It was built in 1878 but was stuccoed and painted white in 1919. Lincoln School (NRHP; 801 Division) was built in 1921 for African American students. In 1955 schools in Atchison were integrated.
