HISTORY

Little Blue Books

Girard, KS | Crawford County

Socialist Emanuel Haldeman-Julius became renowned worldwide as the publisher of the Little Blue Books. His goal was to print the world's great literature in an inexpensive (five-cent) format that working men and women everywhere could afford. Between 1919 and 1951 he and his wife, Marcet, printed more than 1,500 titles and sold more than 500 million copies. You'll find Little Blue Books in the Girard Public Library, Girard History Museum and the Leonard H. Axe Library at Pittsburg State University.
